Call us straight away if you have:

  • A burning smell or smoke from a powerpoint, light switch or the switchboard
  • Sparking, buzzing or crackling from outlets, switches or the board

  • No power to all or part of your home, when your neighbours still have power

  • A power failure stopping your business from trading

Not sure? Call and describe what’s happening. We’ll tell you whether it needs someone tonight or can wait until morning.

What to do while you wait

  1. Keep everyone away from the fault, exposed wires and anything wet.
  2. Turn off the power at the main switch on your switchboard, if you can do it safely and your hands and the floor are dry.
  3. Unplug appliances in the affected area, if it’s safe to touch them.
  4. Don’t reset a safety switch over and over. If it keeps tripping, it’s protecting you from a fault.
  5. Stay on the line if you’ve called us; we’ll talk you through what’s safe to do.

Call 000 first if anyone has had an electric shock and is hurt, or if there is a fire. Don’t touch a person who is still in contact with electricity.

  • Call Western Power on 13 13 51 (24 hours) if:
    • The whole street has lost power
    • You see a fallen, broken or sparking powerline. Assume it’s live and stay at least 8 metres away
    • You feel tingles or small shocks from taps or appliances. Western Power also asks you to have a licensed electrician check your home’s wiring afterwards

Western Power looks after the network up to your meter; we fix everything on your side of it. Check outages in your area.

How our emergency call-out works

  1. You call 08 9415 0762. Call any time, day or night, including weekends and public holidays.
  2. We ask a few questions. What’s happening, where, and whether anyone is at risk. We’ll tell you what’s safe to do while you wait.
  3. You get an arrival time. We dispatch the nearest on-call electrician and give you an arrival time on the call. Travel time depends on your suburb and the time of night.
  4. We make it safe. The electrician isolates the fault so your home or business is safe.
  5. We fix it, or give you a fixed price. Our vans carry common parts, so most faults are repaired on the spot. If a job needs specialised parts, we make it safe, restore what power we can and return the next day for the permanent fix, with the price agreed first.

Emergency call-out fees and after-hours rates

Brillare charges no call-out fee, day or night. You pay only for the time and parts needed, at our after-hours rate, which we tell you on the phone before we dispatch. We confirm the cost of any repair before we start.

Here’s what after-hours electrical work typically costs elsewhere in Perth, so you can compare:

Frequently asked questions

Tip One
How much is a call-out fee for an electrician in Perth? Most Perth electricians charge a call-out fee of $80 to $160 in business hours and $120 to $250 after hours, and some set an emergency minimum of $200 to $450. Brillare Electrical charges no call-out fee at any hour. You pay for time and parts at our after-hours rate, confirmed before any work starts. Are emergency electricians more expensive after hours? Yes. Perth electricians typically charge $90 to $150 an hour in business hours, $135 to $225 on weekday evenings and Saturdays, and $180 to $300 on Sundays and public holidays. Brillare charges no call-out fee at any hour and tells you its rate before dispatch. If the job can wait, booking in business hours saves money. How quickly can an emergency electrician get to me? Brillare dispatches an on-call electrician as soon as you call and gives you an arrival time on the phone. How long it takes depends on your suburb, the time of night and traffic; outer suburbs take longer. While you wait, we'll tell you how to keep everyone safe. Why does my safety switch keep tripping? A safety switch that keeps tripping is detecting a fault, often a faulty appliance, water in an outdoor fitting or damaged wiring. Unplug everything on that circuit and try resetting it once. If it still trips, leave it off and call a licensed electrician; repeatedly resetting it can be dangerous. Who do I call when the power is out in my whole street? If your neighbours have also lost power, it's a network outage. Call Western Power's 24-hour faults line on 13 13 51, not an electrician. If only your home has lost power, or part of it, the fault is on your side of the meter and a licensed electrician can help. Is a burning smell from a powerpoint an emergency? Yes. A burning smell from a powerpoint, switch or switchboard can mean overheating wires or a failing connection, which is a fire risk. Turn off the power at the main switch if it's safe, stop using the outlet and call an emergency electrician. If you see smoke or flames, call 000.
